1980: My Reputation Can Buy Anything

1980: My Reputation Can Buy Anything is a story set in the early years of China’s reform and opening-up. Modern man Lin Fan finds himself in the 1980s. Though he has a healthy body, he has no registered identity and not a penny to his name. Then he binds himself to a “Reputation System,” which turns other people’s amazement, envy, and admiration into reputation points he can use to exchange for anything. With his knowledge of the future and help from the System, Lin Fan starts by posing as an overseas Chinese returning to his homeland to resolve his identity problem. He searches for Grandma Song, the benefactor from his previous life, and helps her family escape poverty. He trades in treasury bonds, establishes clothing and home appliance companies, and builds up a network of connections, growing from a small-time entrepreneur into a business magnate. Along the way, he crushes conservative rivals, wages fierce battles against foreign companies, and uses advanced technology to help the nation overcome critical bottlenecks. In the end, he becomes an industrial titan of his age.
