The Tang Dynasty Administrator

Lu Mingyuan is sent to the Western Regions, where he becomes a minor official shunned by everyone. The moment he opens his eyes, he finds himself in a tangled mess. Powerful local families monopolize trade routes, corrupt officials line their pockets from top to bottom, tribes are bound by thousand-year blood feuds, and formidable enemies watch hungrily from the sidelines. Others rely on swords to break deadlocks. He relies on an abacus and the Tang Code. A mystery surrounding commercial taxes? He uses brilliant calculations to solve the case in three days! Waterworks in ruins? He provides relief through public works and wins the people’s hearts! Tribal vendettas? He brings the law to the courtroom and puts justice first! A Uyghur interpreter, a fierce veteran, an easygoing physician, a young nobleman from a prominent family... From a place of exile, he assembles a dream team for the Western Regions Bureau. When Tibetan cavalry besieges the city, the wartime system he has built turns the whole city into a war machine. When conservatives obstruct reform, his currency plan is enough to overturn the balance of power along the Silk Road. In the end, he brings his Memorial on Governing and Defending Anxi to Chang’an, shocking the imperial court. But he declines office and returns to the Western Regions. Because the seeds of order he has sown have already spread like fire across ten thousand miles of the Silk Road. This is the most hard-core infrastructure fanatic of the Tang Dynasty, using institutions to crush every last objection!
