The System Forced Me to Win Over the School Bully, and Now I'm Hooked

Lin Xiaoman is a struggling student who has the essence of a “fragile college kid” written into her DNA. One day in the cafeteria, she uses naan-speak to complain about her math teacher, only to get caught by Gu Ye, the school’s most notorious bully.

“So this chicken leg looks like your test score? Then do you look like an undercooked naan, begging to get toasted?”

Even more ridiculously, the robot vacuum suddenly speaks in a mechanical voice: “Top Student Rescue System successfully bound! Mission: Get Gu Ye from last place in the grade to the top ten within three months. Failure will implant a memory chip that makes you remember yourself as last in every exam forever!”

To save her brain, Lin Xiaoman steels herself and tries. She brings the bully breakfast, only to be snapped at, “What, you feeding a pig?” When she explains a problem, he retorts, “Your reasoning’s messier than my grandma dancing in the square.” She even mocks his terrible athletic ability with a “Hakimi tears” meme, and ends up being made to run eight laps around the field with him.

But who could have guessed that when Gu Ye shields her from a gang of troublemakers, the temperature chip in his school uniform quietly turns red; that when she embroiders patches for his workbook with Suzhou embroidery, he secretly puts them in his schoolbag; or that even the System starts malfunctioning: “Warning! Target’s affection for Host is at 99%. Host is advised to run immediately... Wait, Host, why are you blushing?!”

When Gu Ye corners her on the rooftop, he gives a roguish smile and swings the anti-surveillance device in his hand. “I know the secret behind your lousy System. Want me to study hard? Fine, agree to be my girlfriend first.”
