Three Lamps Shine on the Willows: Yuanniang and the Twin Stars

In a lonely village amid chaotic times, Liu Yuanniang, widowed young, "buys" a stubborn man named A Lie at the market, hoping for a peaceful life in her remaining years. But on their wedding night, her husband Shen Xingye, who died in battle three years ago, miraculously returns alive. The three face one another in awkward silence, until Yuanniang's shocking suggestion, "Why don't we all make a good life together?" sets in motion a sweeping tale of loyalty, life and death, and dignity. From then on, the fires of war on the northern frontier, turmoil at court, drought, famine, and disease arrive one after another. Through standing together and arguing, sacrifice and possessiveness, the three build a home with their own flesh and blood. In the end, the emperor's own hand grants them a commemorative archway bearing the words "Three Lamps," and their legend is written into the countryside. And Yuanniang, standing shoulder to shoulder with her two stars, gazes upon the river of stars over the human world, showing everyone that love is not a choice between one or the other, but a lamp that two people carry together to light each other's way.
