Brain in a Vat: Code Name Cerberus

Ling Ye, a top memory restorer, accidentally discovers footage in his client An Ya’s memories showing a “future” in which he is murdered. The client dies on the spot, Ling Ye is framed, and he is forced to flee. His only clue is the “murder memory” that cannot be erased.

With help from Evelyn, the daughter of a Genesis director, Ling Ye begins investigating. Following clues in the memory fragments, they make contact with the resistance group “Blank Slate” and learn of Genesis Group’s early “Talent Cultivation Program.” As they investigate and evade the pursuit of Xiao Shen, the head of security, Ling Ye discovers that Evelyn seems to be secretly in contact with Xiao Shen, leaving their alliance riddled with suspicion. During a dangerous cyber-infiltration, they steal confidential files and expose “Project Cerberus,” which aims to replace the city’s leaders with “artificial humans.”

After analyzing the “murder memory” in depth, Ling Ye is shocked to discover that he is the project’s test subject, “Guardian,” while Evelyn is “Communicator.” The true mastermind is Xiao Shen, who had disguised himself as their pursuer. He is the project’s “Thinker” and another “Guardian.” At Genesis headquarters, Xiao Shen tries to mentally reformat them, but Ling Ye and Evelyn resist the purge through the resonance between their memories. In the end, Ling Ye defeats Xiao Shen, and Evelyn exposes the conspiracy to the public.

The Genesis Group conspiracy is foiled, and New Haisi falls into chaos. Ling Ye and Evelyn are free, but their identities and pasts are manufactured lies. They decide to face the unknown future together and search for their missing ally, K. However, Ling Ye receives a mysterious message from his deceased adoptive father, hinting that the conspiracy is far from over.
