Reality Distortion

Kane, a young man from the Settlement Zone, can soothe “reality distortions” by nature, drawing the attention of the world’s rulers, the Directorate. While fleeing, he meets Eve, a rebellious archivist from the upper world, and learns that the world is headed for destruction due to “source code decay.” To protect themselves and save the world, they decide to search for the legendary “Core of Creation.”

With help from an old man who is neither ally nor enemy, the two infiltrate the Directorate’s headquarters, Skyvault City, hoping to steal a map to the “Core of Creation.” They fall into a trap set by Valence, the Directorate’s leader, and discover that the “Core of Creation” may be the switch that destroys the world. After enduring betrayal and sacrifice, they hold fast to their convictions and set out for the forbidden zone known as the “Distortion Wasteland.”

The pair cross the perilous Distortion Wasteland and face off against Valence, who has pursued them, on the road to the “Core of Creation.” At last, before the “Core of Creation,” Kane learns that repairing the world will require him to sacrifice himself. He rejects Valence’s proposal to “seal it away” and gives up the option to “reconstruct” the world, choosing instead to merge with the “source code.” He becomes the world’s new guardian and brings all the disasters to an end.

Kane’s consciousness becomes one with the world. The old order collapses, and a new world begins to be rebuilt through the efforts of Eve and the others. While sorting through the data Kane left behind, Eve discovers a mysterious signal from deep in the universe, hinting that a greater crisis or opportunity is on its way and leaving the story open-ended.
