Grandma Zhang Cuifen Has Arrived: Level One Alert

As a public relations manager, Lin Ziran prides herself on being “clear-eyed” and skilled at handling any crisis. The “smart home for two” she designed is a model of urban married life: a perfectly controlled temperature, a robot vacuum that runs on schedule, and a smart speaker that always knows what you’ll say next. Then one day, her “no-nonsense” mother-in-law, Zhang Cuifen, a former accountant at a state-owned factory, makes a sudden “landing,” bringing two woven bags stuffed with local specialties and a power-saving philosophy that says “anything can be unplugged.”

And so a full-scale family war erupts between “smart living” and “practicality.” Her mother-in-law complains that the robot vacuum “wastes electricity and doesn’t even clean properly,” and it’s forced into retirement. The smart speaker is accused of “talking back” and gets unplugged. The temperature-controlled air conditioner becomes the battleground in a tug-of-war over the remote. Her husband, Gu Jiashu, is a “master of keeping everyone happy” who tries to use architecture to ensure the family structure stays stable, but somehow always spills the water everywhere at the crucial moment.

When Lin Ziran’s PR skills meet Accountant Zhang’s penny-pinching, and the young couple’s refined lifestyle collides with the older generation’s survival wisdom, the domestic chaos beneath this roof reaches strategic proportions. But just as the “civil war” escalates, a secret about her late father-in-law suddenly comes to light, forcing these mother-in-law and daughter-in-law “natural enemies” to form the most unexpected “strategic alliance.”

Only when a family crisis becomes a genuine crisis do they realize that the strongest fortress requires two very different materials to build it.
