Lin Sirui and Her Over-the-Top Mother-in-Law

Lin Sirui is a crisis-management expert at a top PR firm, known as the “Firefighting Queen.” She can make the dead seem alive and dump the blame all the way across the Pacific. She believes in logic, data, and reason, and is convinced there’s no problem in the world that communication can’t solve.

That is, until her mother-in-law, Ms. Zhang Meilan, a retired star of an amateur theater troupe, shows up at her 120-square-meter modern minimalist apartment. Using “a burst pipe at my old place” as an excuse, she arrives with two enormous suitcases and a tragic expression that says, “I’ve sacrificed everything for you.”

From then on, Lin Sirui’s professional skills face their toughest opponent yet.

When a PR whiz who puts “reason above all” meets a drama queen who believes “acting is everything,” a domestic war without gunfire begins. From the philosophical debate over whether to put cilantro in health soup to the intelligence operation surrounding why Neighbor Wang’s son still doesn’t have a girlfriend; from who gets to claim the flowers on the balcony to who has final control of the TV remote, Lin Sirui discovers that all the negotiation skills and logical thinking she’s so proud of are utterly useless against her mother-in-law’s “first cry, then fuss, then threaten to hang herself” routine.

And her husband, the man who commands the world from behind his architectural blueprints, ends up a fragile sandwich caught between two women.

This is a laugh-out-loud comedy about family, love, and reconciliation. Watch as a high-IQ daughter-in-law matches wits with her drama-queen mother-in-law, until their ridiculous clashes unexpectedly bring them together to face life’s real “crises.”
