But I Love the Perch

When Emperor Qianlong traveled south of the Yangtze, the Suzhou prefect presented him with the local specialty, four-gilled perch, hoping to win his favor. The emperor was delighted after tasting it, and could not stop thinking about it after returning to the capital. He ordered Suzhou Prefecture to send him perch as tribute. But the fish died as soon as they left the water, making long-distance transport difficult. Du Ruolan, a fisherman's daughter, endured countless hardships to find a secret method for keeping perch fresh and alive during long journeys, unfolding a tale of love and hate among ordinary people.
