A Buddhist Destiny at Jiuhua

During the Kaiyuan era of the Tang dynasty, the Silla prince Kim Gyo-gak crossed the sea to China, leaving behind wealth and glory to seek the true meaning of Buddhism. After many travels, he reached Mount Jiuhua in Anhui, built a humble retreat, and vowed to build a temple and spread the Dharma. Facing the dangers of the wilderness, obstruction from officials, and interference from local strongmen, Kim Gyo-gak used wisdom and compassion to overcome one crisis after another. He won over the woodcutter Yu Sanlang, who became his first disciple, Daoming, and even brought his enemy Min Wenyuan to his senses.
