A Frolic Across Time

Five hundred years later, Sun Wukong bursts out of the mountain and runs straight into Beijing during the Singles’ Day shopping festival. A delivery rider’s electric scooter is faster than the Somersault Cloud, and the tipping effects in livestreams are bright enough to blind his fiery eyes. The Golden Cudgel is mistaken for a selfie stick, and even his Seventy-Two Transformations can’t beat facial recognition. Most absurd of all, the tightening spell has become a smart fitness band, and Tang Sanzang’s voice prompts play on a nonstop loop: “Wukong, you haven’t met your step goal today. The air quality is poor, so you shouldn’t go outside.” The Great Sage can’t take it anymore and wrecks the shopping gala, only to spot a bald CEO in the VIP seats below. His electronic business card flashes: “Tang Xuanzang, Founder of an MCN Agency.”
