The New Judge Bao: Case Files

In Bianjing, the capital of the Northern Song dynasty, bustling streets and towering palaces stood side by side. The city was vibrant and mysterious. Every narrow lane paved with bluestone and every distant willow shadow seemed to hold countless stories. In this city bathed in the splendor of a golden age lived Bao Zheng, a magistrate in a plain official robe with a piercing gaze. His name was already renowned far and wide. He was the embodiment of justice, wisdom, and courage. Bao Zheng was born into poverty, but his upright character and exceptional intelligence earned him an official post in Bianjing. Whether at the imperial court or among the common people, his every word and deed stirred a response. People said Lord Bao's gaze was like autumn water, able to see through all things and distinguish truth from falsehood, right from wrong. One day in early summer, afternoon sunlight streamed through the window and fell across Bao Zheng's desk, warming the memorial he was reading. Suddenly, someone knocked urgently at the study door. “My lord! My lord! Something terrible has happened!” The voice outside was unmistakably panicked. Bao Zheng raised his head slightly. After a brief silence, he said, “Come in.” A guard hurriedly pushed open the door and fell to his knees. “My lord, an urgent report has come from Huanghua Lane in western Bianjing. Chen Shiqing, heir to a prominent family, has been assassinated. The scene is highly bizarre.”
