Expedition of Memories: The Final Song of the Dark Abyss

[Original worldbuilding / another world / furry / beast world] [This is the first installment in the long-running Faraway Expedition (In Search of Memories: Expedition) series] “The medical department found an amnesiac beast-plant person. Diagnosed with ‘Gemmeling Syndrome.’” “The condition is complicated, but here… the edges of the gaps in his memory are too neat. It doesn’t look like an illness. It looks like a scalpel.” “His physical indicators keep swinging between ‘pathological’ and ‘forcibly healthy.’ This isn’t a disease progressing. It’s… some kind of state.” “Listen, you have only two choices: stay with the fleet and slowly forget who you are in a hospital bed, or go to Chavia and take your chances on the continent of Bilagia. Maybe you’ll find the ‘cause’ of your illness, or maybe you’ll die there.” “That ‘shadow’ he described… is called a ‘Mind Phantom.’ It’s a distorted projection of obsession, guilt, or a powerful memory.” “That thing… only exists in his perception.” “It’s back… It says… I have to ‘atone’… for ‘last time’…” “Last time?” “…This photograph… Who is this person? Why can’t I remember a thing?” “There’s an ‘unnatural barrier’ around the edges of his memory. It isn’t damage. It’s… a screen. As if something were actively maintaining his amnesia.” “Professor Weir… is this connected to the farewell you couldn’t bring yourself to say back then?” “What do we do now? Science can’t explain what’s happening to him.” “Send him there. To Bilagia. Whether he finds an answer, atonement, or a truth he must face… he deserves to see it for himself.” “Have fun, [Mysterious Codename].”
