Synopsis

Journey to the West is the first long-form romantic fantasy novel in chaptered form in ancient China. The earliest surviving edition is the Newly Printed, Illustrated, Official Large-Character Edition of Journey to the West, published in the twentieth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty by Shidetang in Jinling. It does not name an author. Based on the entry “Wu Cheng'en, Journey to the West” in the Gazetteer of Huai'an Prefecture, Lu Xun, Dong Zuobin, and others ultimately concluded that “Wu Cheng'en was the original author.”

Recommend Books with Principled Protagonists. A Little Too Compassionate Is Fine

Modern novels always go out of their way to avoid making the protagonist a saint, preferring to portray them as petty or villainous. I want to read about a protagonist who is chivalrous and courageous, clearly distinguishes good from evil, understands right from wrong, and helps others within their means.
