Journey to the West in Plain Language: Abridged Edition

Journey to the West is the first great romantic episodic novel of gods and demons in ancient China [39] [41]. The earliest edition is the newly printed, illustrated official edition of Journey to the West, published by the Shidetang Bookshop in Jinling in the twentieth year of the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty. It does not name an author [63]. Based on the record “Wu Cheng’en’s Journey to the West” in the Gazetteer of Huai’an Prefecture, Lu Xun, Dong Zuobin, and others ultimately concluded that the original author was Wu Cheng’en.
