It's Not a Conspiracy from the Start

Clack, rumble...

The sound of steel wheels grinding along the tracks filled his ears. Light and shadow swayed overhead. Luo Jialuo woke up.

Last night, at the Pingjing Hotel, he had celebrated with five company executives, raising a toast to Feibang Garment Group finally ringing the opening bell and going public on the stock exchange, a long-awaited milestone. Still slightly drunk, he straightened his clothes and boarded a plane.

In the luxury cabin, he closed his eyes and dozed off.

Who knew how much time had passed? A sea of bustling voices suddenly washed over him. The incessant din made him open his eyes.

He looked around. Men and women streamed past him.

He glanced down. Two dusty heads peeked eerily out from beneath the seat. Their faces still drowsy, they stretched, smacked their lips, and woke as if from a dream.

With a shriek, the train emerged from a tunnel, and blinding sunlight burst through the windows.

Countless flecks of light danced across his arm like sprites. He shifted in his seat and lifted his head, catching a faint fragrance lingering around his nose, while a strand of hair fell across his shoulder.

A girl sat with her eyes closed, her long, soft hair falling loose. Her wrinkled collar gaped slightly, revealing her slender neck.

He took a deep breath. The air was hot and stuffy, almost suffocating.
