The Tenth Door

On Chen Sheng's first day at Hengyuan Group, he learned one thing: don't look up.

It wasn't a polite suggestion. It was posted on the wall. A line of black characters on the white wall of the registration hall, neat as a coroner's report:

First Rule for New Employees: If you hear someone call out your employee number, do not turn around.

There was another rule below it, in smaller print, almost obscured by the line above:

Second Rule: Do not answer.

There was nothing else beneath it.

Chen Sheng stared at the two lines for three seconds. An utterly pathetic thought crossed his mind: That's it? A company has bought a person's life, and it can only offer two rules?

He didn't dare say it out loud.
