Siheyuan: Reborn as Silly Zhu, I Pass the Exam to Become a Government Official

In 1952, He Yuzhu opened his eyes and became Silly Zhu from "The Birds-Filled Siheyuan". The memories of his previous life, spent wasting away in front of a stove until death, had barely faded when he turned to He Daqing and said, "Dad, I don't want to learn cooking. I want to go to technical school." With the help of a System that let him remember everything he saw, his acceptance letter from the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel arrived right on schedule, shaking the whole courtyard. Even Granny Deaf came out leaning on her cane to congratulate him.

Three years later, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and the Red Star Steelworks nearly came to blows over who would recruit him. He Yuzhu plunged into the workshop with the mechanical research team, spending day and night poring over blueprints and data. He managed to double the efficiency of the old steam-powered rolling mill. On the day of the test, sparks flew everywhere. Minister Wang came in person and shook the hand of this young man in his early twenties, grinning from ear to ear.

When the appointment notice promoting him to deputy section chief went up on the bulletin board, the courtyard erupted. Yan Bugui squatted by the entrance, calculating his salary. Liu Haizhong told everyone he met that he'd watched Silly Zhu grow up. Jia Zhangshi was so bitter she couldn't swallow her cornbread. In the cafeteria, He Daqing read the appointment notice over and over, his eyes red as if he'd just peeled onions. This fight to turn their fortunes around was far from over.
