Border Patrol Detective's Case Notes

Nanding, an ancient kingdom centered around Kainan County, was once one of the eight mysterious ancient kingdoms on the southern border of ancient China, as renowned as the ancient Nanjing and Yulang kingdoms.

By the 1980s and 1990s, Kainan had turned its attention entirely toward economic gain. Some people, ignorant and reckless, began engaging in all kinds of illegal activities along the border. Where there is crime, there are also guardians of justice who uphold the law and drive out evil, such as Xue Yiren, captain of the Kainan criminal investigation team.

The story we are about to tell takes place during a distinctive period in Kainan's history, from the end of the last century to around the first decade of this one. It follows Officer Xue and his criminal investigation team as they solve one major case after another. The book is divided into several story arcs, including "The Poverty Alleviation Files" and "The Snowbound Region Files." Through the casework of Officer Xue Yiren over half a lifetime, it aims to create a border-police version of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Continuing from the previous book, after 2015, veteran detective Xue Yiren left his active post on the force and volunteered to work in a remote mountain village, helping it escape poverty. To outsiders, he was simply an ordinary veteran cop rooted in the countryside. Few among the younger generation knew that, before joining the police, Xue Yiren had been a young soldier caught up in a crisis in the snowbound region, foreshadowing his later journey thousands of miles north to rescue his wife and search for his friend.

After returning to the country, Xue Yiren left the police force, and everything was handled discreetly by the authorities. When the newly formed task force set out again, Officer Xue, who had appeared calm on the surface, rushed after the convoy leaving the mountains and pursued it relentlessly, finally collapsing from exhaustion. The older generation of police officers put aside their former edge and returned to ordinary lives in the countryside. The new generation took up their mission and headed to the front lines and the battlefield. The wholehearted devotion of border police officers is passed down from one generation to the next.
