Faithful to the historical record, with believable customs and human relationships, and the author's own interpretation of historical figures and events. The values are sound, the writing is strong, and the dark chapters of history are handled in a satisfying, cathartic way, without sanctimonious do-gooders or foolishly trusting idealists.
