In May 1941, the Nationalist Army’s Technical Department cracked a Japanese coded message! Mao Qingxiang of the department took the matter very seriously. He suspected Japan was planning a major operation targeting the American military base at Pearl Harbor. He secretly discussed it with Dai Li, head of the Military Statistics Bureau, and relied on the bureau’s nationwide network of agents to collect Japanese codebooks in large quantities, hoping to crack the operation in time... Dai Li still resented the fact that his agents had been forced out of the Technical Department, but put on a show of cordiality. In front of Mao Qingxiang, he specifically assigned an officer named Xu Weixian. Xu Weixian was a nobody in the Military Statistics Bureau. His job was merely that of a clerk, handling statistics! A man of deep feeling, Xu Weixian used this opportunity to rescue a fellow townsman. The man, Zhao Youfang, was no ordinary person... And so a gripping story begins! There are many kinds of war.
