Oaths and Betrayal: A Lord's Pact

In a single night, the palace of the Kingdom of Valin was stained with blood. Chancellor Kaslan murdered the king and seized the throne, nearly wiping out the royal family.

Commander of the Royal Guard Karam risked his life to help the young Prince Rein escape.

During their flight into exile, Rein gathered a band of remarkable people, each with their own agenda: Laisan, a scheming strategist who saw through the ways of the world; Fien, a wandering minstrel; the priestess Ireya, who could sense the ancient darkness; and a host of lords whose loyalties kept shifting.

They swore a pact of lords and vowed to reclaim the throne.

But everyone kept their own secrets and desires: some fought for their ideals, some for their lands, and some for revenge alone.

As human lords fought, betrayed one another, and schemed through political marriages in a chaotic age, the seal on the Everlasting Tomb beneath the earth began to weaken. The ancient Lord of the Eclipsing Shadow slowly awakened, monsters poured through the rifts, and the shadow of annihilation fell over the entire continent.

The Silver-Masked Valerian, the last royal descendant who believed himself the sole legitimate heir, contested Rein's claim to the bloodline's legacy. He saw through the old dynasty's corruption, yet was tempted by the whispers of the Eclipsing Shadow and took one step after another into darkness.

Love was fragile and easily shattered in the face of power: the priestess bore the destiny of protecting the continent, but in the end could not keep the one she loved; the iron-willed warrior severed every attachment in his life, and the one tenderness he had left was cruelly crushed by his enemies as a weakness.

There are no pure heroes, and no wholly evil villains.

Pacts can be broken, vows betrayed, and victory often comes wrapped in destruction.

The young prince raises his oathbound sword and sets out to restore his kingdom, only to slowly discover that humanity's endless civil wars are themselves the fuel that awakens the world-ending darkness.

This is a tale of a rightful claim to the throne, crushed by a chaotic age; an epic of restoration steeped in shades of gray and tragedy.
