Mountains and Seas Between Old Friends

When they were young, they promised to weather every storm together. Later, fate drew its blade. With no choice of his own, he could only wound the one he loved most with a sharp blade and force her to leave. When they met again, their love remained, but so did the shackles. Though their hearts were in perfect accord, they took one wrong step after another, missing each other time and again. Just as they finally cleared away the layers of fog and were about to fulfill their promise, fate abruptly snuffed out every last ray of light. There were no villains in this world, yet in the end, they still failed to be together. For the long years that followed, only one of them remained, trapped in memories, year after year, forever parted from the one they loved. The entire story has a tragic ending: no redemption, no coming to terms, only regret until death.
