Biography of the Three Saints of Cheshan

"The Legend of the Three Saints of Cheshan" is based on the folk beliefs of Cheshan Prefecture in Malan Mountain, Minhou, Fujian, and interprets the legendary lives of brothers Chen Liu, Chen Qi and Chen Basan. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, the world was in chaos. Unwilling to submit to the rebellious ministers, the three Chen brothers bid farewell to their homeland in the Central Plains. They carried their mother on their backs and moved thousands of miles south, living in seclusion in the mountains of northern Fujian, farming and hunting. After losing their loving mother to a tiger, the three brothers vowed to eradicate the violence in the mountains, avenge their relatives, and protect the people in the mountains and fields. Traveling through thousands of mountains and ravines in Fujian, Chen Bagong died in the bandit rebellion on the way. The remaining two brothers endured their grief, fought wild beasts and found dangerous paths along the way, and finally settled in Ma Lanshan, the Marquis. Influenced by the Dharma lineage of Lushan Mountain, he cultivated mountain forbidden Gang techniques, traveled around the countryside, drove away tigers, settled villages, and protected acres of farmland in the mountains from wild beasts. As time went by, the three brothers emerged among the mountains one after another. In memory of his filial piety, benevolence and bravery, the villagers built a temple to worship him and named him the Three Saints of Cheshan. Since then, the incense has spread all over Fujian and traveled to Southeast Asia. The novel uses a local legend to describe the struggle of Fujian ancestors facing the dangerous mountains and forests, and to interpret the spiritual core of filial piety, helping the world, and protecting the mountains and rivers.
