The long market epic "Shangchangjie" describes that in the late Daoguang years of the Qing Dynasty, the bank of the Niji River in Huarong, Ezhou was still a barren wasteland with no people crossing the river and no markets. The Liu family has been living here for generations. Xia Lian, a poor girl, became a widow after a marriage contract. She felt good about her hometown because of her virtues, and was finally granted the honor of the imperial court to lay the foundation stone of Jie Xiao Fang. One lane established the dragon's veins, one street opened up all things, roads were opened in the deserted beach, incense was burned in ancestral temples, the first shop opened, and neighbors settled down to live together. The nameless wilderness was named Shangchang Street from then on. The archway in the south section was used to worship ancestors and set up souls, the Liulong business in the middle section took root, and the dock and river port in the north section were opened for trade. The three sections were integrated into one, and the old street was finalized. From the founding of the wilderness in the late Qing Dynasty, to the heyday of the wharf in the Republic of China, to the end of modern prosperity, hundreds of years have passed, and the streets and alleys have been filled with fireworks. The young man Liu Mancang was born and raised and witnessed the old streets from mud houses to rows of shops, from small riverside ferries to the gathering of boats. He saw the ups and downs of merchants, the ups and downs of the neighbourhood, the disputes between officials and businessmen, and the grievances of the rivers and lakes. A street hides all kinds of things, and it reflects people's hearts for hundreds of years. Some people build the soul of the street with their virtues, and some people survive the floating life with their livelihood. Mountains and rivers change their colors, the business world rises and falls, and rises and falls take turns. Only the fireworks on the long street remain at a constant temperature, and the human sentiments remain unchanged. They describe the vicissitudes of an old street over the past century and the ups and downs of generations of people.
