Selfishness of the Self: a New Interpretation of Human Nature

A book that answers a millennium problem Is human nature inherently good or inherently evil? This issue has been debated for two thousand years, but no one has convinced anyone. Mencius said that nature is good, Xunzi said that nature is evil, and Gaozi said that there is neither good nor bad. Everyone has a point, and everyone is wrong. Why? In my opinion, it's because the question itself is the wrong one—you have to put a label on "human nature" and make people take sides between "good" and "evil." But real life is not like this. You've seen that old man who grew up in the slums but lived a clean life. Have you ever seen that young man who comes from a good family but is on the road of no return? You have seen kindness and malice welling up in your heart at the same time. If human nature is good, where does all this evil come from?
