Gap in Rules

So, if I become a rule - a rule that exists purely for 'isolation' and 'protection', a rule with the sole purpose of 'human beings should not be wantonly devoured', can it be like a bonfire, carving out a small safe place for you in the endless darkness? "This is not a sacrifice, this is my 'righteousness', what it will look like in the end."
