Youth Bound for Xinjiang

Reporter Shi Jie travels to the Altay region of Xinjiang, where her grandmother once worked in support of local development. After hearing locals talk about an ancient village in Burqin County called Hemu, she decides to visit. There, she discovers a unique landscape dotted with wooden Tuvan houses and gets to know the people of various ethnic groups who live together in the village. Drawing on her professional skills, Shi Jie records the local customs and way of life in videos. When she uploads them online, they attract an enormous amount of attention. During her stay, she falls deeply in love with the village and ultimately decides to take the local village official exam so she can stay and contribute to the region’s cultural tourism industry. Together with young people from the different ethnic groups who live there, she writes a new chapter in the story of aid to Xinjiang. Along the way, she falls for Lin Ye, a police officer at the Hemu Border Police Station, and finds a precious love of her own.
