The Yellow Springs Library

[Metaphysical story with no romance.] The night Old Man Meng crawls out of his coffin, Meng Xianjin learns through tears that she has only three days left to live. Born under the Seven Yin Fate, she is natural ghost food, and the ghosts that want to eat her could line up all the way to outer space. The corpse collector points to the library that only has people in it at midnight. “I’ll teach you how to stay alive, and you’ll take care of the library for me…” To stay alive, she agrees without hesitation. In the first month, she learns to sleep through the shrieks of vengeful ghosts every night. In the second month, every ghost gets a single slap from one of her talismans, and she sends them all to the library to cultivate their character. She urges them to become well-read ghosts, because even ghosts should be knowledgeable! In the third month, the entire mystic world hears about a reckless girl who dares to “steal lifespans” from evil ghosts to extend her own time among the living. Utter madness. In the fourth month, evil ghosts everywhere are warned: Stay away from Meng Xianjin. She’s the real evil ghost. She doesn’t just steal your yin lifespan, she forces you to read books. The ghosts wail: “Look at you. We’re dead and still have to study.” The library holds a hundred thousand books, each one sealing a vicious, murderous ghost. When a long-sealed blood-soaked book with blank pages is opened, someone speaks softly from the depths of the abyss: “Welcome back…” Meng Xianjin is stunned. After spending years suppressing ghosts, why is she the one who needs to be saved in the end?
