The Yin-Yang Scales

On a rainy night, Lin Ye, so broke he can't pay his rent, stumbles upon a bronze scale dropped by a man in a suit. This palm-sized antique harbors something sinister: faces crawl across its beam, and the little beast on its counterweight watches him with red eyes. Stranger still, it seems to burrow into Lin Ye's destiny chart like a living thing.

A mysterious figure in a black raincoat comes after him. A girl in a red dress smiles eerily at the mouth of the alley, and even the landlady demanding rent bares inhuman fangs. More terrifying still, his pursuer has the exact same face as his missing father, and repeats only one sentence: “This scale will be the death of you.”

The bronze scale burns against his chest like a red-hot brand, driving him toward a midnight rendezvous at the City God Temple. When the words “See the scale, and you see me” appear on its beam, Lin Ye realizes the truth: this is no ordinary scale. It's a lock that hooks onto lives, locking away the truth of his origins, a conspiracy spanning ten years, and a soul that should not exist.

Ordinary life was torn apart long ago. From the moment Lin Ye picked up the scale, he had to learn to use his life as a counterweight, weighing the realms of yin and yang and fighting the monsters lurking in the folds of the human world. But as the truth is peeled back layer by layer, he discovers that the ones he should have feared most were never the ghosts...
