I Don't Want to Work Another Day at This Miserable Job

Hello, everyone. I'm Lin Xuan, an unlucky guy currently going through the seventh round of onboarding for an internship at the Qin Dynasty Historians' Office. Here's what happened: I'm a history PhD. I looked at a few too many Qin bamboo slips and got forcibly enrolled in a "historian reincarnation and reemployment package." My main job: record Qin history. Additional clause: every time a Qin king dies, I have to be buried with him. Literally, "when the boss dies, I die too." And they won't even let me rest in peace afterward. I keep all my memories, get a fresh burst of youth (my body's age gets rolled back), then report to my next boss. Duke Xiao, King Huiwen, King Wu, King Zhaoxiang... I've already served six generations of Qin kings, and I'm about to summon the dragon (Qin Shi Huang). But in my seventh life, I ran into the biggest crisis of my career. The day Jing Ke assassinated the king of Qin, that guy didn't follow the script. He actually stabbed the king with his dagger! My chest hurt (the synchronized death mechanism had activated), and my vision went black. My only thought as I died was: Does this count as an accident on the job? Can I claim workers' compensation? When I opened my eyes again, the System had sent me back to the starting village: the twenty-first year of Duke Xiao of Qin. Shang Yang hadn't arrived in Qin yet, and my resume had been reset to that of a sixteen-year-old intern. A System notification even floated through my mind: "Major historical deviation detected. Forced restart. Please investigate the issue yourself. Thank you." Not even a bug-fix compensation? Whatever. At least I've learned my lesson this time. Next time someone asks me, "Did you find the bug?" I'll say, "I did, but it'll cost extra. At the very least, settle the death benefits for my first seven lives, okay?"
