Failed to Cultivate Immortality: Now I Rule Over a Hundred Thousand Deserts

Lin Shouyi was a slow learner. After three hundred years of hard cultivation at the Qingyuan Sect, he still hadn't established his foundation. He was eliminated, sent to the medicine garden to do manual labor, and made to grow spiritual herbs for the sect's prodigies. Then his Cloud-Making and Rain-Calling Art went out of control and drowned three thousand-year-old Jade Marrow Herbs. His cultivation was crippled, he was expelled from the sect, and he returned to mortal life, in possession of a hundred thousand square miles of desert on the edge of the Taklamakan, at the foot of Kunlun Mountain. Legend had it that immortals and demons fought a great battle here in ancient times, and the shattered remains of a damaged spiritual leyline lay deep underground.

Should he cry?

Or perhaps, like a fallen hero in a tale, throw back his head and howl at the sky?

No!

Why can he still cast immortal arts?

Ignition Art: lights the first campfire in the desert.

Plant Growth Art: Sea buckthorn blooms and bears ripe fruit in an instant.

Cloud-Making and Rain-Calling Art: sweet rain falls from the sky.

Earth Vein Nurturing Art: improves soil fertility.

Glow Art: basic illumination, a great help for working at night.

Insect Repelling Art: keeps mosquitoes and bugs away.

Fasting?

If he's given up cultivating immortality, then he might as well feast on meat and fish!

A mortal?

Having mortal desires, chatting up a girl and getting married are perfectly normal!

Lin Shouyi, a homeless failure at immortal cultivation, begins learning how to live as an ordinary person again in an unfamiliar desert.
