Sophora Coffin Bride

In "Huaimu Village", a remote mountain village in western Hunan, there is a 300-year-old locust tree at the head of the village. Under the tree is an unowned coffin (legend has it that it is the coffin of the Qing Dynasty chieftain's concubine). The villagers regard it as "a treasure of the town", but there is also a taboo of "peeling and crying after the locust coffin comes out". Villagers are infected with "desquamation syndrome" - the skin peels off painlessly, and fine locust flower patterns will appear on the edges of the peeled skin; old locust trees will exude dark red sap on rainy nights, and people who come into contact with the sap will accelerate the progression of desquamation.
