The Last Demon Hunter

Lin Shouyi, the last heir to the Lin family’s demon-slaying arts, had planned to hold on to this useless inheritance and lie flat beneath the bright light of science, doing nothing and scraping by until he died.

That was until one morning, when a demolition crew unearthed a thousand-year-old demon coffin shrouded in ill omen.

The next day, the director of the Office for Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and Emergency Response to Special Affairs came knocking. “Mr. Lin Shouyi, the nation needs you.”

Lin Shouyi, still holding a youtiao in his mouth, stared in shock. “Wait, comrade, didn’t we agree... that we should believe in science?”

Beneath the veil of science, ancient shadows have never gone away. Urban legends turn into man-eating evil spirits, relics of history awaken and wreak havoc, and the wickedness in people’s hearts gives rise to horrors never seen before... Forced into the spotlight as the “last demon slayer,” Lin Shouyi must take up his unfamiliar talismans and magical tools, joining forces with his colleagues at the Office for Emergency Response to Special Affairs to face one reality-defying anomaly after another, all while surrounded by red tape, budget constraints, public-opinion management, and reports that never seem to end.

Yet as he ventures deeper into the mist, Lin Shouyi discovers that the demon coffin incident was only the tip of the iceberg. A vast conspiracy is stirring in the shadows, seeking to tear apart the rules and return the world to chaos. As science and the occult collide and tradition struggles to merge with the modern age, he must find his own path in this troubled world.

This is a night watchman’s road, lined with thorns and sacrifice. Can the last heir hold on to the final dawn for a world gripped by fear?
