The Way of the Cautious Sword

They say sword cultivators should be driven and relentless, pressing forward without hesitation, using the sword in their hands to challenge every injustice in the world.

Others say a sword cultivator should embrace a solitary resolve, tempering their sword heart on sheer cliffs, never turning back even as wind and snow bury their brows.

Still others say sword cultivators must sever their worldly ties…

And so on.

Han Lin heard all this and said, “I understand. Swords take a thousand forms, and hearts hold ten thousand visions. A sword cultivator isn't about living as others say you should. It's about making the sword in your hand the light at the heart of your being.”

“Looks like you truly understand the sword. Now choose your sword...”

“I choose to lie low.”

Years later, countless young prodigies lay buried in the green hills, beneath mounds overgrown with weeds.

Clutching his sword, Han Lin sat at the end of the road to immortality, smiling as he watched all living things.

“You have to be alive to practice the sword, and you have to be alive to cultivate immortality.”
