The Will War

When the illness of traditional Chinese painting master Lin Tingzong suddenly worsens and he is hospitalized, the Lin family is divided over whether to move the old man into palliative care. At the same time, several of his grandchildren are struggling with troubles of their own. The second daughter, Jingyun, is a PhD who returned from overseas. She gave up her career for her husband, Weifeng, and now stays home full-time to care for their child. Weifeng is on the tenure track at a university, and with his contract nearing its end, he is at risk of losing his job after failing to publish in a top journal. The eldest daughter, Lin Yue, runs a thriving medical aesthetics clinic, but in reality its funding has dried up. Debt collectors are hunting her down, and she has nearly ended up in jail. The youngest, Lin Daochuan, appears to be a celebrated artist, but in truth he has been coasting on his grandfather’s name.
