This Director Is a Retro Soul

Zheng Qiu, hailed as the father of Chinese cinema and director of the country's first short narrative film, unexpectedly arrives in a parallel world several decades in the future and gets bound to a Film Revival System.

After that, classics spanning six generations of directors, including The Songstress Red Peony, Fisherman's Song, Spring in a Small Town, The White-Haired Girl, Border Town, Evening Rain on Mount Bashan, Song of the Phoenix, Red Sorghum, To Live, Beijing Bicycle, and The Green Grass, begin to take shape under his hands.

He sets off a wave of cinematic revival across the country, declaring, “Retro films can shine just as brilliantly today!”

And when faced with Liu Yifei, Yang Mi, and a host of other young actresses boldly confessing their feelings, he replies with righteous sincerity: “Back then, Ruan Lingyu was driven to take her own life over love. Today, I only hope you can go further on the road of filmmaking...”

(PS: The collision between the first generation of filmmakers and modern cinema showcases the development of film in China and abroad. It may be a little niche, but I hope you enjoy it.)
