My Captain, Xiao Jinnian

(A semi-autobiographical short work of documentary fiction)

During those two years that defy explanation, I stood every watch, completed every training session with care, stayed true to my original purpose and remembered my mission, and followed orders to carry out every task.

I was an outstanding soldier of the new era, one of the “Four Haves.”

That was all...

And Captain Xiao Jinnian

was the only guiding light in that endless stretch of my life.
