Laplace's Demon

According to interstellar treaty, once every hundred years a star streaks across the sky and falls to Earth, becoming one of its sages. The fall of a star heralds both the arrival and the death of a sage. Sages drive Earth's development. They possess extraordinary intelligence and mysterious abilities. In the year 3080, a thousand years have passed without a single star falling. No new sages have appeared on Earth, leaving it battered and facing an unprecedented crisis. Meanwhile, war between Earth and the planets of the universe is on the verge of breaking out. The alien worlds are home to mighty warriors who believe Earthlings have no right to coexist with them. They are bent on destroying Earth and establishing a new order of their own. Humanity must either evolve and awaken unknown powers within itself to fight the planetary war, or sit back and await its destruction.
