The Marquis's Darling: A Poisonous Wife of the First Rank

They say that with her beauty alone, she once made three thousand enemy soldiers lay down their weapons on the battlefield. They say that with her beauty alone, she once made an executioner drop his blade on the scaffold. She was Lady Yunhua, First Rank, Ji Changqing, born into a distinguished family and blessed with a fine husband. For three years after their marriage, she failed to conceive, yet her husband never complained, and she felt guilty. Heaven knows how happy she was when she found out she was pregnant. “A-Yao, I'm finally carrying your child...” By the flickering candlelight, beneath the red silk canopy where the couple lay together, she heard him promise her closest friend: “Chan'er, once she is dead, I will marry you.” So their childhood friendship and deep marital love had all been one grand scheme. That day, blood stained the land and corpses covered the fields. All fifty thousand soldiers of the Ji family army were wiped out. That day, her father and brothers were pierced by countless arrows. Her mother wailed in grief, then dashed herself against a pillar and died. And she was force-fed an abortifacient, then cut in half at the waist in the marketplace. Amid the falling snow, she returned, bearing a blood feud and reborn as Luo Ying, a discarded daughter of a marquis's household. She swore to kill her enemies with her own hands, avenge her parents and brothers, and clear the name of the fifty thousand soldiers of the Ji family army. She takes on her treacherous father, torments her wicked sister, and uncovers the truth. With every step planned, she sends her former husband to hell, tramples her best friend underfoot, and even topples the emperor. In this life, she will never again be helpless prey for others to butcher. Her fate is hers to command, not Heaven's. But one man sneaks into her chamber in the middle of the night and shamelessly tells her, “A-Ying, in this life, I'll protect your life, and you can rule over mine. Will you marry me?” She says, “I am as venomous as a snake and scorpion, ruthless in my methods, and best at destroying people with weapons they can't see.” He replies calmly, “I am violent-tempered and have done every evil under the sun. I'm best at using weapons you can see to send people straight to the afterlife.” She says, “My fate brings death to husbands.” He smiles brightly. “What a coincidence. My fate brings death to wives. We'll neutralize each other's poison. We're a match made in heaven.”
