The Marquis Requests His Concubine

She was the last survivor of the Gui clan, adopted by the master of the Wanfeng Tower. On the very day she was promoted to deputy master, she became a scapegoat for the tower master. Reborn as a human, she is now a maidservant carrying a child, tormented by the principal wife who is about to enter the household. The man who should be protecting her is nowhere to be seen. The baby in her belly is already formed, and she can neither abandon it nor bear to part with it. With a baby in her belly, she can’t climb trees or put up a fight. All she can do is get kicked around. She meets the man for the first time three days after the child is born. He wants the baby, but not the mother. Once she has given birth, she is finally free. She packs her things, ready to set off toward a brighter future, but the tiny, hungry bundle of flesh she has to pack along with her stops her in her tracks. “Hua’er, where are you going?” Warm as the sun and gentle as water, the dark-hearted man with long, flowing hair and a peach-blossom smile picks up her little bundle for her. “The little bundle is too heavy. I’ll carry it for you. Wherever you go, Hua’er, I’ll go with you.” She tries to sneak away time and again, but he always catches her, as if she were a mischievous monkey unable to escape his grasp. Bai Yin says Hua’er is Hua’er, not someone else, and in the end she can only stay by Bai Yin’s side, forever and ever, never to leave! Gu Hua says Hua’er stopped being Hua’er long ago. Someone had eyes but couldn’t recognize a pearl, unable to see the truth! If not for him, she would never have known her past was so complicated: the Gui clan’s curses, the master of Wanfeng Tower, the feuds of the martial world, and the struggles of the imperial court... If not for him, she would never have known how it felt to simply enjoy someone’s love and trust him enough to put her back in his hands.
