The Marquis Says His First Wife Is Hard to Handle

The Fu family is a scholarly clan. Its children recognize a thousand characters by the age of three, know the Four Books and Five Classics by heart at five, and compose poems like song by seven. They all become scholars in the imperial court, except for the youngest daughter, Fu Qinglin. She didn’t speak until she was five, has little talent, and is an unusual mediocrity. Her only real asset is a pretty face. As the saying goes, a woman’s lack of talent is a virtue. At sixteen, Fu Qinglin marries Gongsun Xiao, the Marquis of Fuyuan, and begins her new life as a wife. “How could you be so foolish? You change the subject whenever we talk. You’re a daughter of the Fu family. I brought you into my household because I admired your reputation for talent,” the Marquis says with a smile, though his words are harsh. The pretty but empty-headed Fu Qinglin stares at him innocently. “Huh? Didn’t you marry me for my looks?” Who said she was talented? “No.” “Oh, what a shame. My eldest sister is the best at history, my second sister excels at poetry, and my third sister is the best doctor. For writing lyrics, painting, singing, drinking, or swordsmanship, you should ask one of my brothers.” Is he from out of town? How does he not know this? Fu Qinglin looks at him with utter disdain. “So, husband, are you going to divorce me and marry someone else?” “…” Her foolish husband has no answer. Was he tricked into marrying her? The Marquis of Fuyuan is skilled in tactics but ruthless, well versed in various martial arts but cruel. He is known for his literary and martial achievements but makes no good use of them. He is a smiling tiger with a cold heart. By the age of thirty, no one dared marry him, until some meddlesome person from a certain family tricked him into marrying the youngest Fu daughter. Is the youngest Fu daughter’s life in danger?
