That Thing About the Batkid

Gulshan was an independent assassin who only took odd jobs, happily tending to her thoroughly ordinary life as a freelance killer, until one day the Assassin League's people suddenly dragged her back to serve as an assistant to their young master.

Gulshan couldn't understand why an assassin would need an assistant. It wasn't as if the young master needed her to mop the floor after a job, right?

Life as his assistant went smoothly. The young master killed quickly and efficiently, and even gave Gulshan gifts after completing a job.

He didn't take a salary, either. Every time, he credited all the earnings to Gulshan.

Gulshan thought she wouldn't mind living like this forever.

Then, one day, after the young master finished a job and brought her back to their hideout to report in, their unhinged boss affectionately told him, "You've grown up, son. I've got a very interesting new assignment for you, and it has to do with your little girlfriend."

The young master's "very interesting new assignment" was to kill Gulshan.

Gulshan, forced to listen in: ...I knew it! Working for a feudal family was always going to end with me being silenced! But what does this assignment have to do with the young master's girlfriend? Wait, where did he get a girlfriend? I'm with him all day, and besides his mom, there's not another woman anywhere near him!

The good news: The young master was loyal. He refused the assignment, ran away from home, and swore to cut ties with his dark and evil birth family.

The bad news: He left without taking Gulshan with him. Now his crazy birth family wanted her to hunt him down.

Worse still: Gulshan had been blackmailed, so she had no choice but to accept the assignment.

Thinking of the young master's world-shaking skills and his cold, ruthless nature...

Gulshan decided she was doomed.

Damian once had a girlfriend, back when he was still with the Assassin League.

Then she died, and Damian left the Assassin League.

He spent a long time trying every method he could think of to forget her, even attempting to hypnotize himself.

Perhaps he'd hypnotized himself too many times and started hallucinating. He actually saw his long-dead girlfriend mugging passersby on a street in Gotham.
