After waking up, Qianyue finds herself inexplicably transported fifteen hundred years into the past and stripped of her human status.
As the child of a great demon, she loses her mother as soon as she's born. Hunted by all sorts of demons, she runs and hides until she manages to blend into a human city-state.
Demons live longer than humans, so Qianyue has to move every eight or ten years. Relying on her talents and instincts, she gradually grows into a great demon herself.
Why keep hiding, then? The vengeful fox demon takes revenge by shaking the eggs in her enemies' homes until the yolks break, becoming a renowned demon king within a hundred-mile radius. Surrounded by companions and living her best demon life, she reaches the top.
With her long life as a great demon stretching on and on, Qianyue wanders through the human world out of boredom and happens upon some humans about to feed a chimeric baby to wolves.
They mutter things like, "A demon! This child must not be allowed to live!" Qianyue yawns, and the child gets tossed right into her mouth.
How can you humans not tell the difference between a fox and a wolf?
With an unwanted baby dangling from her jaws, Qianyue's ears droop. She thinks she's just too kind to throw the poor thing away.
"Hahahaha! The humans think you're a demon, so you'll survive as a demon's child!"
Like someone holding a little lion in a fairy tale, the demon king Qianyue introduces her freshly appointed second-in-command to her underlings, although they'll have to raise the baby for her, cleaning up every mess along the way.
Barely an adult by demon standards, Qianyue doesn't want to become a mother without even giving birth. She wants to enjoy herself and find a pretty boy, so she makes her parents become parents all over again.
As for how she had a child five hundred years after dying... Don't worry about it!
Raising a child takes a long time. Qianyue enjoys the admiring gaze of her adopted younger brother, drinking, fighting, and going out to have fun, while becoming the strongest demon king he wants most to defeat.
Qianyue has long since stopped wanting to deal with the mountain's daily affairs. She takes her younger brother's growth very seriously, hoping he'll defeat her so she can spend her days lazing around and letting him take care of everything. But just as he's nearly grown, he goes down the mountain and never returns. Before he can become a demon king, he becomes the King of Curses.
Qianyue: ...
Well, the fox family has produced another ungrateful brat.
Don't listen to your big sister and you'll pay the price. When they meet again, her younger brother has become twenty fingers sealed away in different places across the country.
Qianyue is heartbroken. To cheer herself up, she plays the part of a "fragile human princess" in a honey trap in Heian-kyo, punching the Dog General and kicking the man-eating demon king. Even in the modern world a thousand years later, her legend lives on in books.
"So, how did someone as strong as you end up guarding the Gojo family's door?" the young Six Eyes divine child asks curiously.
"Probably because..." Fox-shaped Qianyue wiggles an ear and scratches an itch, looking wistful. "You can put it on the tab here."
The pressures of life eventually make the fox sell her body.
There's still a whole mountainful of underlings to feed!
