Devoted young master × tsundere, flirtatious little husband
Jia Wenze is a notorious wastrel, but he once did something heroic.
On his wedding day, he secretly took the place of the bride's sweetheart.
The very next day, his father kicked him out and sent him to a remote village to reform.
Before he could even start slacking off, his father sent someone to keep an eye on him. If he didn't work, he wouldn't get to eat.
The village chief assigned him a weeding job. Jia Wenze lounged in a rocking chair, a foxtail grass stem in his mouth, lazily shirking his work.
A gentle voice sounded beside him.
"I'll do your work for you, but you'll have to pay me extra."
Jia Wenze turned around, ready to curse out this fool who didn't know his place, but the instant he turned, the pretty young man's bright eyes and lovely smile stole his soul.
He became a devoted admirer on the spot. "I'll do the work myself. You can have the money. Just sit here and keep me company."
The young master struggled with a boulder until his hands were nearly raw, but couldn't move it. The young fellow stepped forward and easily carried it away right in front of him.
Now the young master was even more infatuated with the little fellow he'd fallen for at first sight.
After work, he shamelessly followed the young fellow home. As soon as the courtyard gate opened, two adorable little children came running out to greet them.
The children looked at him excitedly and asked, "Papa, is this the father you brought home for us?"
When Jia Wenze learned that Xu Yao was a widower, it took him only a second to accept it.
He thought happily, A buy-one-get-two deal! Jia Wenze, you're doing great.
From then on, Jia Wenze was always by Xu Yao's side. He made Xu Yao special meals, helped him with his work, and did the laundry and cooking for Xu Yao's two children, even lifting them up high in the air.
Xu Yao was so doted on that he felt uneasy.
He told Jia Wenze, "There's no future for us. You deserve someone better."
Jia Wenze grinned. "Opportunity favors those who are prepared. I don't believe your heart is made of stone."
In time, the young master who had never known how to work became a capable laborer. He was courteous, respected his elders, cared for the young, and earned an increasingly good reputation in the village.
He and Xu Yao also grew closer and closer.
At the bonfire festival, after everyone had a few rounds of drinks, they were all tipsy. Taking courage from the alcohol, Jia Wenze kissed the Xu Yao he'd placed on a pedestal until he was dazed.
Xu Yao pushed him away but still tried to deny his feelings. Jia Wenze pressed a broad palm to Xu Yao's chest, where his heart pounded like a drum, and asked, "Xu Yao, your heart isn't made of stone either. Will you give us a chance?"
Xu Yao stammered for a long while before finally saying, "I have children. Your parents won't agree."
But early the next morning, Jia Wenze's parents, older brother, and sister-in-law arrived at Xu Yao's courtyard with box after box of lavish betrothal gifts.
They even competed to hold the two little ones.
