At the bonfire festival, after everyone had a few drinks, Jia Wenze took advantage of his liquid courage and kissed Xu Yao, whom he'd placed on a pedestal, until he was utterly senseless.

Xu Yao pushed him away, still stubbornly denying his feelings. Jia Wenze pressed a broad palm to his chest, where his heart was pounding like a drum, and asked, "Xu Yao, you're not really heartless either. Will you give us a chance?"

Xu Yao stammered for a long time before finally saying, "I have children. Your parents won't agree."

But early the next morning, Jia Wenze's parents and older brother and sister-in-law arrived at Xu Yao's courtyard with box after box of lavish betrothal gifts.

They even competed with one another to pick up the two little ones.
