How About a Matcha Cake?

Gentle pastry chef x gloomy sunflower

Si Sheng opened a bakery, and for six months, the same regular NPC showed up every day.

She was a girl who always kept her head down, was quiet, and never smiled.

Day 1

Yu Ling: "One matcha cake, please."

Day 2

Yu Ling: "One matcha cake, please."

Day 3

Yu Ling: "One matcha cake, please."

Day 183

Yu Ling: "One strawberry cake, please."

Si Sheng's hand paused as she sprinkled matcha powder. Surprised, she asked, "No matcha cake today?"

The girl finally looked up. It was the first time Si Sheng had seen her face. Her eyes were beautiful, but veiled in gloom.

"It's a little bitter," she said.

Si Sheng packed up the strawberry cake and handed her a freshly made matcha cake as well. "This one's for you. If it's bitter, just add a little sugar."

Yu Ling didn't like smiling, and she didn't like seeing other people smile.

Except Si Sheng.

Si Sheng told her that life needed a little sweetness, and matcha cake needed a little sugar so it wouldn't taste so bitter.

Just like Yu Ling's longing for her.

The bitterness was worth it. There was sweetness inside.

"A Sheng, do you remember what lily of the valley symbolizes?"
