Woken at three thirty in the morning, Chu Qing gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'll go buy them for you."

Chu Qing, whose head was nearly bald from learning to cook pregnancy meals, gritted his teeth.

"Wait there. I'll rub them for you."

"Why won't you come hug me? Are you really that busy?"

As Chu Qing boiled ginger tea and washed his underwear for him, his teeth finally ground together. He wanted to put the underwear over the man's head.

Seeing this, the expectant dad lowered his head, his voice softening as his pregnant belly showed plainly.

"Are you getting sick of me? It's okay to be upset, just not in front of the baby, all right?"

Chu Qing was speechless. After holding it in for a while, he finally said, "I'm not sick of you. I'll hug you as soon as I dry my hands."

The expectant dad smiled.

Chu Qing knew the expectant dad had a bad temper and a strong sense of pride, and that he hadn't wanted this child during the pregnancy.

But he never expected him to be so heartless. Not long after their baby was born, he disappeared without a trace.

Chu Qing thought he and the child would have only each other from then on, but a few years later, the expectant dad suddenly came back.

The expectant dad spoke first. "I heard you found my son a stepmother? I came back to check her out."

Chu Qing shook his head. "There is no stepmother. It was a misunderstanding. You can leave now."

The expectant dad smiled charmingly. "Then can I put myself forward?"

It took Chu Qing a while to realize he was volunteering to be the stepmother. He asked, "...Didn't you think it was embarrassing?"

"It is embarrassing."

The expectant dad leaned closer, smiling, and kissed him.

"But being your wife isn't embarrassing."

P.S. The bottom had a reason for leaving. They're both good babies.

[Bonus Scene]

The expectant dad's original plan had actually been to get revenge on Chu Qing.

But Chu Qing might really have been set up by the heavens. The moment the expectant dad got close to him, his belly started growing for no apparent reason, even though they hadn't done anything.

Every power fantasy story needs a supporting character who gives the protagonist help when they get into trouble: spirit medicine, money, and then a stylish exit. These people are collectively known as background NPCs.

Wen Che is a new employee who thought the job would be easy.

Who could have guessed he would mistake the wrong person every single time?

Wen Che is a reclusive master living in a secluded valley. The overpowered protagonist is a down-on-his-luck sword cultivator who is recuperating there for a while.

Wen Che gazed at the two boys before him, lost in thought.

One was dressed in rags, all skin and bones.

The other was strikingly beautiful, aloof and self-possessed.

The down-on-his-luck overpowered protagonist must be the one on the left.

So Wen Che began acting like a mentor and friend.

But didn't the other boy seem a little too eager to tattle?

(Day One)

The boy said without expression, "The overpowered protagonist is slacking off instead of practicing his swordsmanship."

Wen Che: "Don't worry about him. He has his own pace."

The boy stared at him in disbelief. "But I just saw him roasting a wild chicken over his sword!"

Wen Che's eyes lit up. "He's probably discovered a new cultivation method. No wonder he's the overpowered protagonist!"

The boy, who studied and practiced diligently every day and was already far ahead of the overpowered protagonist, all for a single word of praise, stiffened.

(Day Two)

The boy dragged over the overpowered protagonist, whose face was bruised and swollen. "I caught him stealing spirit herbs from the valley!"

Wen Che: "Those were herbs I prepared for him myself. They'll help his cultivation."

The boy's eyes lit up. "Can I take some too?"

Wen Che: "...Try touching even one."

The boy, who had always been noble and never taken more than his share, clenched his fists.

(Day Three)

Led by the boy, Wen Che watched the overpowered protagonist steal his clothes and inhale their scent with abandon. His brow twitched.

The boy's pupils were pitch-black. "Well? Why aren't you saying anything now?"

Wen Che stubbornly replied, "...I gave those to him myself."

Anger immediately rose on the boy's pale, jade-white face. He launched into a sword technique and cut down the overpowered protagonist.

Wen Che stared at the scattered pieces of the so-called "overpowered protagonist," completely dumbfounded. Trembling, he picked up his sword.

The boy's gentle, refined facade fell away. He sneered. "What, are you going to avenge your lover?"

Wen Che forced himself to stay calm and put on a stern face. "How dare you speak to your master like that?"

The real overpowered protagonist froze for a moment, then smiled bitterly. He let go of his sword and spread his arms.

It was a bold embrace.

He had often seen that vile wretch receive such embraces from the man. He had pretended not to care, pretended it didn't matter.

He had never admitted that he envied him terribly.

2. [Childhood Friend, Lovesick Top x Tsundere Genius Bottom, the Real Young Master]

Wen Che is the caring big brother next door. The overpowered protagonist is a neighbor boy with a tragic past, waiting for the one ray of light in his childhood.

Wen Che looked at the two little boys before him.

One had half his face disfigured and was gloomy and withdrawn.

The other had exquisite features and long hair reaching his waist.

So Wen Che once again began acting like a caring big brother to the disfigured overpowered protagonist.

But why did the other boy always hide in the shadows, grinding his teeth in anger?

(Day One)

The boy handed him his long, smooth black hair and scoffed. "My hair is longer than his. You can braid mine. It'll look better than that ugly brat's."

Wen Che laughed helplessly. "There's no need."

The boy tugged at his clothes. "Come back here!"

Wen Che gave in. "All right, all right. I'll braid it for you."

Afterward, the boy clutched the braid that came undone with a single tug and stamped his foot furiously.

(Day Two)

The boy stopped him, his lips curling up. "Hmph, I didn't expect you to be such a lovesick fool."

Wen Che glanced at the character traits of this world. "So what?"

The boy's cheeks flushed. "Then you must be unable to take your eyes off me, Young Master. You're just playing hard to get."

Wen Che was in a hurry to go comfort the overpowered protagonist. He briskly walked around him. "Thanks, but no."

Watching Wen Che smile so warmly at that ugly younger brother, the boy clenched his teeth.

(Day Three)

The boy, now a grown man, crossed his arms and scoffed. "What good did all that kindness to him do? He's not even my parents' biological child."

Wen Che was busy moving house with the overpowered protagonist. He replied distractedly, "Mm-hmm. What a shame."

The boy kicked over his luggage and pinned him against the wall. "Do you understand what I meant just now?"

Wen Che laughed awkwardly. "Sure. You're saying you're the only young master, right?"

The boy rested his forehead on Wen Che's shoulder and muttered, "No."

"I mean, I'm the only little brother you need. You don't have to go see that ugly brat anymore."

"I'm much, much better than him."
