Bai Hedu has always known that he is an experimental subject created by Academy City, born to fight. He excels in both scholarship and combat, has an array of superpowers, and possesses an incredible regenerative ability. Even after the strongest person has stabbed him through the heart countless times, he still bounces right back.
Until one day, he discovers that all of this was bought with his own life. After that, he gives up completely.
Bai Hedu: I'm not going to live past twenty anyway, so why bother playing along?
He promptly maxes out the card of Academy City's No. 1, blows up the lab that created him, kills thirteen researchers and strings up their hearts, then picks a cliff and leaps off. The result? He doesn't die. Instead, he's bound by something calling itself a System.
The System orders him to go to another world and wipe out an entity known as the Organization. Once the mission is complete, he can return to his original world and live to a ripe old age.
Bai Hedu thinks back to what he did before he died.
Bai Hedu lies down peacefully: Then just kill me now.
System: ?
But his attempt to die fails, too. A Host bound to the System can't die before the mission ends. In other words...
System: Even if your mission is judged a failure, you'll have to wait until the Organization's leader completes his grand ambition.
Bai Hedu gazes at it hopefully: So when will that happen?
System: T-Twenty...
Bai Hedu: Two years?
System: At least twenty years. There's no upper limit.
Bai Hedu: ...
He slowly raises his middle finger at this world.
The System clears its throat: This mission has a long duration. To compensate you, the System has automatically skipped the early part of the story.
Bai Hedu sees hope again: What? You can just skip it?
The System ignores him: Your unique qualities have been detected, and the most suitable position has been selected for you... Congratulations! You are now the Organization's most precious experimental subject!
Bai Hedu: I *****
On Bai Hedu's first day at the Organization, the boss behind the scenes orders him to undergo a test. His opponent is his superior, and he has to survive five minutes against him.
Important: No guns, but melee weapons are allowed.
Bai Hedu looks at the white-haired man across from him, pulls out his knife, and gives Gin a sinister smile.
Time to show you all the terrifying power of a human weapon!
So, just after undercover agent Furuya Rei, under the alias Amuro Tooru and codename Bourbon, has established himself in the Organization, he witnesses a thrilling battle firsthand. Gin, the Organization's second-in-command, gets stabbed in the lung by a teenager, quite literally.
The kid calls Gin a **** while getting stabbed through the heart. Blood pours everywhere, but he not only survives, he nearly stabs Gin to death.
The test ends with the boss's most capable subordinate and his most precious experimental subject both badly injured and laid up in the hospital. As a result, all the work that should have gone to Gin falls to him and Scotland. They use the opportunity to rise through the ranks and gain deeper access to the Organization's inner workings.
The two who lucked into a promotion: ?
Never mind. First, let's take the career luck.
Note:
The timeline from the show has been changed, so there are some differences from the original.
The male lead's character is hard to pin down. He isn't necessarily stronger against strong opponents, but he's definitely weaker against the weak.
He's neither a proper member of the good guys nor the bad guys, just here for the fun of it.
There will be some crossovers with other works, but they won't take up much space.
More notes may be added as ideas come to me.
