What If I Weren't a Beta?

This is one of the short stories in the “What If” series. Feel free to visit the series page.

What? I got the wrong person!!

Lu Qiuming: So what if I did? Betas can't get pregnant anyway. Should I pay him to keep quiet?

Yan Lin: So sex with an alpha feels this good? I wonder if he'd give me his contact info so we can keep seeing each other once a month...

Yan Lin is a beta, and his sex is male.

He never thought he would fall in love with an alpha, much less have a child with him, even if he was forced into it.

This makes no sense.

Years later (they don't actually reunite), Yan Lin pulls out all the stops to get back to Lu Qiuming.

“What are you doing with that needle!”

“Just taking a tiny bit of your glandular fluid.”

“What do you need that for?”

“To treat an illness.”

“What illness?”

“Obviously a glandular illness!”

“You're a beta. Where would you get a gland?”

“I had one transplanted!”

“You got a gland transplant just to come back to me? Admit it, you're crazy about me.”

Yan Lin thinks: What else could I say? I can't exactly tell him I'm trying to treat the sickly son he's never met and doesn't even know exists. (All right, he's my son too.)

Emotionally stunted, narcissistic top x laid-back, world-weary bottom

Theme: The plan backfires spectacularly.
